The purpose of this project are to determine the structure to function relationships in plant -glucosidases by achieving the following objectives:
1. Structural determination of rice BGlu1 -glucosidase.
2. Investigation of the basis for catalytic properties and differential oligosaccharide binding and hydrolysis by BGlu1 and closely related -glucosidases.
3. Determination of the preference of rice BGlu1 for transglycosylation acceptors and the product linkages made by BGlu1 in transglycosylation of sugars.
4. Characterization of the differential interaction of Dalbergia cochinchinensis and D. nigrescens -glucosidase with natural substrates, and determination of the amino acid differences and interactions with substrates responsible for these differences
