Characterizations and relationships of gonadrotropin-releasing hormone (GnRHs), gonadrotropin hormones (GTHs), sex-promoting pheromones in crustaceans, and their possible applications in aquaculture
The goals of this project are to study the possible heirachical relationships between 5HT/DA, GnRHs, gonadotropins (GSH, GIH, ELH, AH),and sex-promoting pheromones in controlling the processes of gonad maturation, spawning, sexual attraction and differentiation in the giant fresh water prawn, Macrobrachium rosenbergii, the black tiger shrimp, Peneaus monodon, the blue-swimming crab,Portunus pelagicus, and the mud crab, Scylla serrata. So that this basic knowledge could be translated to the appropiate applications of endocrine stimulations for improving the mating and fecundity of the domesticated broodstocks, and to control the sexual differentiation of their offsprings, which could increase productivity and economic value of these species.
