This research addresses the problem of developing a resource estimation model for applications executed within our parallel-pipeline model of execution on a dedicated homogeneous computational grid. In [9], we report preliminary results that demonstrate that in the limit our parallel-pipeline model of execution achieves linear speedups on a dedicated homogeneous platform. We also sketch the skeleton for a performance prediction model that could be employed for resource estimation on such a grid. The establishment of an accurate performance prediction model on a homogeneous grid is a necessary precursor to performance prediction on a heterogeneous grid. The goal of this research is thus to develop a practical performance model that predicts the resource utilization (i.e., computation and communication complexity) for applications executing under our parallel-pipeline model on a homogeneous computational grid. This performance prediction model can provide information to heterogeneous grid schedulers such as [16] that are capable of managing multiple homogeneous grids.
