วัตถุประสงค์
:
1. Even though Ayutthaya is one of the prominent locations of the traditional houses in central Thailand, vernacular houses in this province are now decreasing in number. This research project attempts to expand my preceding study on the physical and socio-cultural evolution of Thai vernacular houses carried out in Tambon Pakkran of Amphor Pra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, and to cover various surviving vernacular housings in Ayutthaya province.
2. Even though many studies of Thai vernacular houses have been made, there has been no framework for an examination of the evolution of vernacular houses associated with experiences of the inhabitants themselves. Examining evolution of these surviving vernacular houses in Ayutthaya province, associated with narratives of the residents could provide how they have adjusted themselves and their dwellings during the rapid socio-cultural changes of the country. This, I believe, could contribute to the ideas of cultural sustainability in vernacular dwellings in other places.
