This project focusses on two specific classes of security problems in sensor networks: (1) secure key pre-distribution and management and (2) integrity and secrecy of the communication among the processors on the sensors. These two classes of problems constitute the most fundamental building blocks upon which sensor network applications are constructed.
The goal of this project is three fold. First and foremost, it aims to develop a common framework under which one can readily evaluate existing schemes and protocols. Second, it aims to use this framework to further our understanding about how to design and evaluate schemes and protocols for sensor network applications. Third, with this understanding, we aim to design new simple, efficient, and secure schemes or protocols. We plan to implement these schemes as software packages that enable others to test our proposals on their sensor networks.
