วัตถุประสงค์
:
1. To investigate the effects of pulpal inflammation on the sensitivity of exposed human dentin to osmotic stimulation of removing the smear layer by etching and then occluding the tubules again with potassium oxalate in man, and to measure the fluid flow through dentin produced by osmotic stimuli under similar conditions in vitro. These are to confirm that the solutions evoke pain by activating hydrodynamic receptors and determine if the sensitivity of dentin to osmotic stimuli is increased or decreased by a smear layer and by tubule blocking agents.
2. To determine the effects of pulpal inflammation on the sensitivity of dentin to cold and to sub-atmospheric (negative) hydrostatic pressure stimulation of exposed, etched dentin in man.
