1.To apply direct PCR to touch DNA derived from bullet casings in order evaluate the potential of obtaining a DNA profile for the purpose of aiding legal proceedings and law enforcements.
2.To investigate the effect of different ammunition types on the probability of obtaining a DNA profile.
3.To determine whether the process of firing is detrimental to the touch DNA present on bullet casings.
4.To further characterize the mechanisms of DNA degradation by indirectly observing the effect of high heat and pressure from firing on DNA survivability.
