Comparison efficacy between iron chelator (Deferiprone) and T-type calcium channels blocker (Efonidipine) on the neuropathological conditions of normal and thalassemic mice under iron-overload condition
Specific aim 1: To determine the effects of iron-overload condition induced by long-term high-iron diet consumption on plasma inflammatory-oxidative stress condition, blood-brain barrier breakdown, brain iron-regulatory proteins, brain inflammatory-oxidative condition, brain microglia activation and the Alzheimers like changes in normal and thalassemic mice.
Specific aim 2: To determine the comparative efficacy of orally-active iron-chelator; deferiprone and T-type calcium channel; efonidipine on plasma inflammatory-oxidative stress condition, blood-brain barrier breakdown, brain iron-regulatory proteins, brain inflammatory-oxidative stress condition, brain microglia activation and the Alzheimers like changes in normal and thalassemic mice.
