วัตถุประสงค์

The main aim of this project is to define rodent-borne disease situation in the main public parks around the area of Bangkok. To address the main aim, the study can be divided into the following objectives: (1) to extensively collect rodents and their relative specimens (i.e., blood and several tissues) for constructing specimen bank and database of rodent parasite/pathogen in urban Bangkok for further researches; (2) to understand diversity of rodents and their parasites/pathogens; (3) to examine potential rodent-borne pathogens by focusing at hantavirus, scrub typhus, leptospirosis first. As research budget constraint, some other viruses, bacteria or macroparasites will be checked from those stored specimen later when future support available; (4) to compare rodent-borne disease status among different public parks and identify risk foci of potential zoonosis transmission in Bangkok and (5) to use infection of wild rodents as model to study host-parasite interaction in relation to urbanization effect by comparing to obtained data from previous projects in Southeast Asia, i.e., CERoPath and BioDivHealthSEA projects.
