1) To reveal the basic spatial and temporal characteristics of the interannual climate variability over the SEA region, and their linkages with the climate change;
2) To reveal the possible causes of the interannually varying climate signals over the SEA region;
3) To establish a coupled data assimilation system for the EICMs model and CAS- ESM model to provide the initial conditions through assimilating available atmospheric and oceanic observations;
4) To carry out the near-realistic prediction experiments over the Pacific Ocean region and to improve the prediction skills of EICMs model on forecasting Sea Surface Temperature over the Pacific Ocean region;
5) To carry out the near-realistic short-term prediction experiments over the SEA region and to improve the prediction skills of CAS-ESM model on forecasting the interannual climate variations over the SEA region;
6) To exchange knowledge, experience and techniques on the short-term prediction and data assimilation studies between Chinese and Thai scientists, and to enhance the mutual understanding and collaboration between Chinese and Thai scientists.
