วัตถุประสงค์
:
1.To assess the indigenous knowledge (and plant diversity) of swidden cultivation management and combined it scientific knowledge obtained through field research as a tool for forest restoration and management. This proposed work will be a follow-up, not a repeat, from the article "Applying indigenous and scientific knowledge of swidden cultivation to tropical forest restoration" (Wangpakapattanawong et al. 2010). In the mentioned article, the authors employed a chronosequence technique (or time series) by assessing plant diversity in the different plots of different ages. However, the best approach should be to follow changes in plant diversity composition temporally until the complete of the rotation of shifting cultivation, e.g. 5 years. Hence, this proposed research project.
2.To assess carbon storage (in plant biomass and soils) and dynamics of the swidden cultivation system.
