Design and syntheses of Hg2+-fluorescent chemosensors and Cd2+-fluorescent chemosensors and their utilization in solutions, solid support-strip tests and portable monitoring devices
1. To develop new and simple fluorescent chemosensors using inexpensive starting materials and with reduced synthetic efforts,
2. To develop new fluorescent chemosensors that can provide high sensitivity (low detection limits) and high selectivity for Hg2+ and Cd2+ ions. Detections can be observed by the absorption and fluorescent emission in the visible regions or can easily be detected by the naked eyes.
3. To demonstrate the use of these sensors in the solutions,
4. To fabricate the potential sensors on solid supports such as lab on paper, and used as Hg2+-strip test kits, Cd2+-strip test kits and suspension materials.
5. To apply the potential sensors into small optical devices which can be used to monitor Hg2+ or Cd2+ contaminated samples on-site.
6. To utilize the potential sensors to determine the levels of Hg2+and Cd2+ in real samples such as drinking water, contaminated water and rice, and tuna tissue.
