วัตถุประสงค์
:
The goals of this project are to identify and characterize natural products with anticancer activity present in the flora of Thailand using a S. cerevisiae chemical genetics synthetic lethality screen. Anticancer activity of natural products will be evaluated using S. cerevisiae strains defective in DNA damage repair and cell cycle checkpoints to mimic common mutations found in cancer cells. Our research team has extensive experience in the use of model systems to investigate basic biological processes that will allow for screening of plant extracts and ultimately isolated compounds with the assistance of our collaborators from the Chulalongkorn University Drug and Health Products Innovation Center at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The aims of this study are (i) identify bioactive natural products from Thai medicinal plants which exhibit anticancer activities; (ii) characterize the identified natural products and deduce the molecular targets; and (iii) determine anticancer activity of natural products against human cancer cell lines to validate results from the yeast model system.
