Considering the potential of triploid P. monodon and the scarcity of informations regarding the biological aspects of triploid shrimp, the present project is aimed at exploring the fundamental understanding of some of the biological aspects of triploid of P. monodon, which is expected to provide critical informations for the successful expansion of triploidy induction in this species to a commercial level. The topics under investigation will be:
1. To determine the reproductive sterility in male and female triploid P. monodon to its diploid counterpart.
2. To determine the level of difference in defense mechanism between triploid and diploid P. monodon at physiological and molecular level.
3. To determine the variation in stress response between triploid and diploid P. monodon at physiological and molecular level.
4. To determine the disease resistance potential of triploid P. monodon to diploid ones.
5. To compare the effect of ploidy on biochemical and fatty acid profile in P. monodon.
