2.1 To study and design the ultra-high density magnetic recording channels such as two-dimensional magnetic recording (TDMR), bit-patterned media recording (BPMR), and heated-dot magnetic recording (HDMR).
2.2 To develop and evaluate the performance of a rate-4/5 modulation code for TDMR and BPMR, which performs together with ITI subtraction techniques.
2.3 To study and develop the utilization of multiple read heads for track mis-registration (TMR) prediction and correction and also to investigate the complexity reduction of multi-track joint 2D detectors for BPMR channel.
2.4 To develop a novel of recording techniques using the multi-track reading scheme and also study the effects of island size and position fluctuation on multi-track reading scheme in BPMR systems.
2.5 To study the feasibility of newly HDMR technology and investigate the data pattern dependence to writing error in staggered HDMR systems.
2.6 To develop a person in aspect of magnetic recording technology and to publish research in the international journal that appeared in ISI Web of Knowledge, at least 2 papers.
