1) Development of new synthetic methods on the basis of trans-indolylation reaction: Synthesis of nonsymmetrical 3,3?- and 2,3?-bis-indole alkaloids by trans-indolylation of readily accessible symmetrical 3,3?-bis(indolyl)alkanes.
2) Development of new synthetic methods on the basis of enantioselective reaction: Enantioselective synthesis of nonsymmetrical 3,3?- and 2,3?-bis-indole alkaloids by trans-indolylation of readily accessible symmetrical 3,3?-bis(indolyl)alkanes.
3) To study the reaction mechanism of the novel trans-indolylation reaction.
4) To apply the trans-indolylation reaction as a key step for the first total synthesis of naturally occurring 2,3?-bis-indole alkaloids, gelliusine E and Mucronatin B.
5) To confirm the structure and stereochemistry of naturally occurring 2,3?-bis-indole alkaloids, gelliusine E and Mucronatin B.
