The main objective of this project is to develop a research program in conjunction with junior entomologists in Thailand to study various aspects of two insect vectors, mosquitoes and stable flies on which we have very few information and knowledge. Followings are the objectives of each proposed subproject.
Objective of Subproject 1
To study the biting patterns and flight range of Aedes albopictus, vector of Chikungunya, in Mae Tang District, Chaingmai Province
Objective of Subproject 2
To detect human pathogens such as parasites and viruses in potential vectors of diseases
Objective of Subproject-3
To characterize the vector capacity of lymphatic filariasis and malaria in Kanchanaburi Province, western Thailand
Objective of Subproject-4
To estimate genetic diversity and population genetic structure of the Minimus complex in Thailand
Objective of Subproject-5
To characterize the trophic behavior of Anopheles dirus and other related species in Kanchanaburi Province
Objective of Subproject-6
To identify the stable fly species and construct phelogeny of the different species
Objective of Subproject-7
To evaluate the circadian activity of Stomoxys calcitrans
