วัตถุประสงค์
:
The main objective of this project is to determine the prevalence of the immunocompetent-specific VNIc/M5/ST5 genotype among isolates causing cryptococcosis in humans in Thailand.
In order to achieve this goal, the specific aims of this project are:
1. To investigate the molecular type distribution of the Cryptococcus neoformans/ C. gattii species complex collected from clinical samples based on the URA5-RFLP method. This will provide the information of the major molecular type distribution over the present years in Thailand.
2. To further determine the subtype distribution within the molecular types determined in 6.1 based on Multilocus Sequence Typing (MLST). This aim is designed to detect the frequency of the VNIc/M5/ST5 genotype among clinical isolates in Thailand.
3. To correlate the subtypes and molecular types with patients demographic data, especially HIV status and other underlying disease. This step will prove if such correlation of the VNIc/M5/ST5 genotype with the immunocompetent status of the patients is also true in Thailand?
4. To compare the distribution of subtypes/molecular types and prevalence of cryptococcosis to the previously published data. The changes in such distribution and prevalence will help to predict if there is a chance of the spread of this genotype form China and Korea into Thailand posing a possible threat to public health system in Thailand.
