1.To reveal the basic spatial and temporal characteristics of the decadal variations of both the summer and winter monsoons over the SEA regions, and their linkages with the East Asian monsoon;
2.To reveal the possible causes of the decadal variations of both the summer and winter monsoons over the SEA regions;
3.To examine the capability of the current climate models to reproduce the climatology and decadal variability of the summer and winter monsoons over the SEA regions;
4.To project the near-term (i.e., the next 20-30 years) wintertime and summertime climate change over the SEA regions and to estimate the uncertainty caused by internal variability of the climate system;
5.To exchange knowledge, experience and techniques on the SEAM and East Asian monsoon studies between Chinese and Thai scientists, and to enhance the mutual understanding and collaboration between Chinese and Thai scientists.
